This rigid inflatable (RIB) superyacht tender was commissioned to accompany Superyacht A, the 119-meter (390-footer) owned by the Russian businessman Andrey Melnichenko.
The Superyacht tender was built by New Zealand-based Vaudrey Miller Tenders, Auckland New Zealand. Vaudrey Miller tenders worked with renowned designer (and A’s stylist) Philippe Starck as well as Ocke Mannerfelt Design (industry leading race boat design studios).
Matt Gibson principle designer of Built Boats worked closely with Vaudrey Miller tenders taking design specifications from both stylist and hull designer, to produce construction drawings used to facilitate the build. This included mechanical design for numerous custom parts such as: hatches, door openings, lifting mechanisms, electrical and firefighting systems.
Once commissioned the 10-meter (33-foot) RIB hit 52 mph (half load). Twin 315-hp Yanmars, a unique high performance stepped hull, lightweight carbon fibre composite construction allowed for this.
For Matt Gibson this project was a once in a lifetime opportunity working alongside industry-leading yacht designers, industrial designers, and boat builders.
